Privacy Policy
Effective November 2, 2026.
Trademark Screen is a free first-pass screen of a brand name against the USPTO federal trademark register. This policy explains, in plain English, what we collect and what we never collect.
What we do not collect
- No accounts, no cookies, no analytics, no tracking pixels. We do not use Google Analytics or any third-party tracker on this site.
- We do not store the names you screen or what you sell. A screen runs, shows you the result, and is forgotten — we keep only a count (see below).
- We do not store IP addresses. The 10-screens-a-day free limit is enforced with a salted hash of your IP that lives in server memory only, rotates every day, and is never written to disk.
What we count (totals only)
To know whether the free service is being used, we keep count-only totals: how many pages were visited, how many screens, domain checks, global checks, and watches were run, each as a total and a per-day count. These numbers cannot identify any person, and they contain no searched names, no goods descriptions, and no IP addresses.
What we store when you create a watch
If you ask us to watch a name for new filings, we store only what you give us for that watch: the brand name, what you sell (used to work out the classes), the alert level you chose, and your email address. That record lives on our server (a US-hosted Oracle Cloud server) and is used for one purpose: checking the register weekly and emailing you if a new confusingly similar filing appears. We never sell it, share it, or use it for anything else. Your email address is never shown on the site, and your watch list is private to your email: to see it, enter your email on the home page and use the 6-digit code we send you. The code expires in 10 minutes, works once, and is stored only as a one-way hash. Nobody else can see your watched names, and nobody can stop your watches without that code or the stop link in your email.
How long we keep it
- Screens — not kept at all. A screen is forgotten the moment it finishes. Only the count is kept.
- Watches — kept until you stop them. A watch record (name, goods, alert level, email) stays on the server for as long as the watch is active, so the weekly check can run. The moment you stop it — by the stop link in an email, the Stop button on the site, or asking support — the record is deleted immediately, and no more emails are sent. Deleted watches are not kept in a trash or archive.
- Sign-in codes — 10 minutes. The 6-digit code for viewing your watch list is stored only as a one-way hash, expires after 10 minutes or after one successful use, and is then deleted. The 60-minute session it unlocks lives in your browser only.
- Counts — kept indefinitely, but they are only totals. Per-day counts of page views, screens, checks, and watches contain no names, goods, or addresses, so they cannot identify anyone.
How to stop emails and delete your watch
- Every alert email has a stop link at the bottom — one click removes the watch and the emails stop.
- On the home page, enter your email and use the 6-digit code we send you — every watch then has a Stop button next to it.
- Or email [email protected] from the address on the watch and ask us to delete it — we will, and we will confirm.
Third parties that see your requests
- USPTO Trademark Search — your screen queries the USPTO's public search backend. We send it the name and the search variants, nothing about you.
- TMview (EUIPO) — the EU/UK check queries TMview the same way, with the name only.
- Domain registries (RDAP) — the domain check asks the registries whether a domain is registered, with the name only.
- Resend — if you create a watch with an email, Resend delivers the alert email to that address.
- Cloudflare — our DNS and proxy. Cloudflare sees visits to the site as part of serving it, under its own privacy policy.
Children
This service is for adults naming a business. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update the date above. Significant changes will be noted on the home page.
